Fashion and ethics? Do these two even go together? Fashion in this day and age is mostly consumption. Or better put: consumption to waste. How can ethics play a role in this world?
Fortunately the fair and sustainable fashion scene has grown in the last few years and more and more brands and shops with an ethical mindset emerge. However, fair fashion is still far away form being mainstream. Fast fashion is still the bigger market and often easier to find and consume.
ModeEthik wants to promote fair fashion and is committed to finding personal style: How do we find, define our personal style? What does it mean and what role can ethics play in this?
Simply put, I believe that once you have found your personal style (more or less), you don’t have to go shopping the latest trends every week. You don’t need constantly new clothes, because you know how to combine the stuff you have for a fresh outfit that represents your style. No matter whether you are a conscious fashion consumer or a fast fashion shopaholic, it makes sense to define your personal style because it can prevent wrong purchases, help you to use the things you already have in your closet and finally help to communicate whatever you want with your outfit – make you fell you in your clothes.
